Disneyland Paris Half Bib Only Registration Opens

Meet Mickey at the finish (runDisney)

Bib-only registration for the inaugural Disneyland Paris Half Marathon opens Tuesday, February 16 at 5 p.m. Paris time, or 11 a.m. Eastern. The race weekend runs from September 22-25, 2016 at Disneyland Paris in Marne-la-Vallée, France.

Registration through Disney travel partners opened in October. If you’re interested in a travel package that includes hotel, race bibs, and more, Magical Racecations in the U.S. still has availability for all of the weekend’s running events, as of press time.

Charity partners will also have bibs available at some point in the future.

I’ll be headed to the race to write about the event courtesy of runDisney. Excited? As Mickey Mouse would say, “Oh, boy! Oh, boy!”

How To Register

1) Register for a bib only, without a travel package, online.

2) Call the Disneyland Paris Reservation Center. The U.S. phone is 011 33 160 30 20 30. Phone numbers are also available for other countries in the link. Runners can buy running packages any time.

3) Book a package through one of the travel agency partners. Magical Racecations and GET Travel Sports are the U.S. agencies, but seven other agencies in the U.K. and other countries have packages for runners as well. You can book through any of them. Magical Racecations does have packages available as of press time. Packages include at least three nights hotel, one three-day park ticket, and a half-marathon or 5K registration, with other additional options.

4) Register to run with a charity. Limited charity entries will be released soon.

Registration for the 2015 Avengers Super Heroes Half Marathon Weekend at Disneyland in Anaheim, CA from November 12-15, 2015 opens Tuesday, April 7 at 12 p.m. Eastern. In its second year, the runDisney Avengers half marathon will debut the new Captain America 10K and Infinity Gauntlet Challenge—running the 10K and half-marathon on consecutive days—along with the Avengers Super Heroes 5K.

The Avengers half marathon and other races run through Disneyland Resort and the streets of Anaheim with Disney’s signature entertainment lining the course—characters from Marvel’s The Avengers, bands, cheerleaders, and more. Runners who register for the Infinity Gauntlet Challenge will earn a challenge medal in addition to bling for each race. To qualify, you must register for the challenge—not register for each race individually.

The Avengers Super Heroes Half Marathon Weekend also includes runDisney Kids Races in Downtown Disney, runDisney Health & Fitness Expo at Disneyland Hotel, and a pre-race Pasta in the Park Party inside Disneyland Park on Friday, November 13.

How quickly will the Avengers Super Heroes Half Marathon Weekend events sell out? If the most recent Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon is any indicator, faster than a flash of lightning. The wine-themed half marathon at Walt Disney World sold out in about 30 minutes. The 2014 Avengers half marathon and other weekend events filled up in under 2 hours.

Will the 2015 Avengers half marathon match that? Read the rest of this entry →

Bling! (Photo: Marathon Foto)

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: this might be my all-time favorite half-marathon. I ran Disney Wine and Dine in 2011 and 2013, as part of press trip courtesy of runDisney and New Balance, and loved every minute. I hope to keep running it for years to come. My husband proposed at the Finish Line Party after the race in 2011, so it’s our anniversary race of sorts.

But the proposal isn’t the only reason I love Disney Wine and Dine Half. The night-time race means dazzling Disney park lights and one killer after party that bumps all night long. This race is the best bang for your buck of all of runDisney’s half-marathons.

The Disney Wine and Dine Half Marathon starts at 10 p.m. outside the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex and traditionally takes runners through Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, past Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts, and finally to the finish at Epcot. It’s a route runners won’t find at any other half-marathon. The Walt Disney World Half Marathon and Disney Princess Half Marathon share the same course. But Disney Wine and Dine is truly unique.

Plus, the race finishes with the best post-race party I’ve found—at the Epcot International Food and Wine Festival, which stays open until 4 a.m. just for runners. Admission to the Finish Line party is included in race registration, along with a $15 Disney gift card and a complimentary beer or wine at the finish. Read the rest of this entry →

Brooklyn Half Marathon 2014 Registration Opens

Mark your calendars. Registration for the 2014 Brooklyn Half Marathon on May 17 opens this Wednesday, January 22 at 12 p.m. EST.

The Brooklyn Half Marathon may not be as famous as the New York City Marathon or NYC Half, but it should be. The event, also put on by New York Road Runners, is a world-class race on the verge of becoming very big, indeed. Mark my words: the day will come when this event is popular enough to have its own lottery. For 2014, NYRR is expecting its biggest field yet. Read the rest of this entry →

Active Donates Fees For Marine Corps Marathon Snafu

Marine Corps Marathon

The Active Network issued an apology for the Marine Corps Marathon registration debacle via Marine Corps Marathon’s website. (You can read all about the registration mess here and here.)

But more than an apology, the company announced they are donating all of their fees for the race to two charities affiliated with the marathon: the Wounded Warrior Project and Semper Fi Fund.

Active.com was much maligned for the registration problems by runners in comments on Twitter, Facebook, and other online forums.

But anyone who’s ever had—as many runners were calling it—an epic fail (and let’s be honest, we all have) should at least tip their hat to Active for donating their fee, which is no small amount of money for such a large race.

Here’s the apology in full. Read the rest of this entry →

Marine Corps Marathon Snafu Shows Lotteries Are Best

Marine Corps Marathon

The 2103 Marine Corps Marathon got off to a hazy start after a registration snafu. (Photo: Cpl. Bryan G. Lett/US Marine Corp)

Race directors, take heed. Everyone expected the Marine Corps Marathon in Arlington, Va., and Washington, D.C. to sell-out fast. All the race’s entries were gone in record time of 2 hours, 27 minutes.

But what frustrated thousands of runners, and no doubt the race organizers as well, was a massive failure of the race’s registration system run by the Active Network via Active.com.

Consecutive registration snafus with the Bank of America Chicago Marathon last month and the Marine Corps Marathon yesterday, due to intense demand, have many runners chanting L-O-T-T-E-R-Y.

When it comes to the most popular races that expect registration to sell-out in a matter of hours, lotteries are simply the way to go, whether it’s the Bank of America Chicago Marathon, the Marine Corps Marathon or any other race facing this type of registration stampede.
