2015 Panasonic NYC Triathlon On TV Nationwide

Once a summer, some 4,000 athletes brave the waters of the Hudson River, ride the highways of Manhattan, and pound the pavement in Central Park at the Panasonic New York City Triathlon. This year, I had the honor and pleasure to catch the action as co-host of the NYC Triathlon TV broadcast.

Though I’ve never competed in the NYC Triathlon myself, I’ve done six other triathlons and a few open water races too, including the 1-mile New Amsterdam City Swim in the Hudson River. My seventh triathlon is this weekend at the Boston Triathlon. I run and cycle the hills of Central Park and the West Side where the course leads triathletes, too. So I know how formidable swimming, biking, and running New York City can be, especially in the dead of summer.

And the race on July 19, 2015 was one of the hottest in history, with the heat index peaking above 100 degrees with plenty of humidity too. I was so impressed by all the competitors and the grit they showed that day. What a way to tackle the Big Apple.

Working on the broadcast was incredibly fun. In addition to hosting, I took on some writing duties as well, and the finished product is finally ready to air all across the U.S. I hope you’ll tune in. I know I can’t wait to see it!

Pretty in Pink: My New Cinderella Running Costume

Cinderella running costume

Cinderella is Pretty in Pink!

What a week! The Disney Family Fun Run 5K and Walt Disney World 10K at the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend are already behind me.

Cinderella running costume, Belle running costume

Pluto made me miss my pup, Cinderella.

I picked up my Pluto medal Thursday at the Disney Family Fun Run 5K while dressed as The Hunchback of Notre Dame‘s Esmeralda with my mom by my side. Read all about it in my race report.

Today, I got my Minnie Mouse at the 10K this morning while dressed as Beauty and the Beast‘s Belle. I didn’t run a personal best like a hoped, but I gave it my all and got some great pictures with Daisy Duck and Pluto. Read the full race report!

I’m attending the weekend as a guest of runDisney and I’ve got just one more race and one more Disney running costume to don: The Walt Disney World Half Marathon. A photo of my costume is below.

In case this is your first visit to my blog, I’ll start with this: I’m obsessed with Cinderella. Why? I have no idea. She’s just my boo. She has been since I can remember remembering things. Read the rest of this entry →

Mwah-ha-ha-ha-ha! The Disney villains, ghouls and goblins have their night out at The Twilight Zone Tower or Terror 10-Miler Weekend at Walt Disney World in Florida from Friday, October 4 through Saturday, October 5.

The race is an ode to Disney villains and things that go bump in the night.

First up is the Disney Happy Haunted 5K Trail Run at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex on Saturday morning.

Then 10,000 people will run under the cloak of darkness at the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 10-Miler at 10 p.m. on Saturday night.

After the race, the Disney Villains Hollywood Bash keeps Disney’s Hollywood Studios open until 4 a.m. for runners and their guests. If it’s anything like the Epcot after party at Disney’s Wine & Dine Half Marathon, which I ran in 2011 and am running again in November, it’s sure to be epic.

I feel like people come up with especially great costumes at this particular runDisney race. And you know I love a good Disney running costume. Like these Twilight Zone Tower of Terror bellhops in 2012. Read the rest of this entry →

Would You Get A Running Tattoo? A Kaua’i Marathon Beauty

How much do you love your favorite race? Enough for a running tattoo? Enough to tattoo the race’s logo on your body?

Becki Lynn Lassley of Colorado did just that. She’s run the Kaua’i Marathon all five of the race’s five years, and with great success. She’s finished in the top three women every single year. She won in 2010, finished second in 2009 and 2011, and third in 2012 and 2013.

If I had that kind of track record at a race, I might consider a running tattoo too. Lassley had the Kaua’i Marathon logo tattooed by a local artist in Kaua’i. Here’s a detailed view: Read the rest of this entry →

Friday Foto: Kauai Marathon and Kauai Half Marathon

In just nine days, I’ll be one of those runners in that photo: welcoming the Hawaiian sunrise on a quiet stretch of mountain road on the island of Kauai at the Kauai Marathon and Kauai Half Marathon.

Today, I leave for paradise. I couldn’t possibly be more excited except, perhaps, if I had a one way ticket. In just a few minutes there will be nothing at my desk but a poof of smoke.

I’ll be tackling the Kauai Half Marathon along with my husband, Phil, thanks to the folks at the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa and the Kauai Marathon and Kauai Half Marathon, who graciously extended me an invitation.

The Hawai’i Visitors and Convention Bureau, the folks behind GoHawaii.com, made the trip a reality by hosting my journey to the Aloha State.

Next time you hear from me, I’ll be on the Hawai’i, the Big Island, before I make my way to Kaua’i itself!

The Hawai’i Visitors and Convention Bureau is sponsoring my trip by assisting me with airfare, accommodations, activities and rental car. The Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa is providing me with complimentary hotel and race entries. But as always, all opinions are purely my own. I really do believe in being honest about my experiences. For more information read my Disclosure Policy.

Friday Foto: Running On The Beach

Summer is for running on the beach, like this one on Cuttyhunk Island in the Elizabeth Islands of Massachusetts. I toured the entire island in a 1-hour jaunt that took me alongside beaches, marshes, cliffs, the town of Gosnold and the sparkling waters of Buzzards Bay and Vineyard Sound. It was a magical run in an unspoiled place.

Cuttyhunk has no cars, save a few trucks used for utility. Most of the 75 residents of Gosnold—which spans the Elizabeth Islands—and visitors to Cuttyhunk get around on foot or golf cart. As a runner, using my own two feet would do. Read the rest of this entry →

That’s going to be me on Sunday at the Montauk Point Lighthouse Sprint Triathlon.

I’m really excited for the race. It’s my third triathlon, and unlike my first two triathlons I’ve actually had a decent triathlon training season. Read the rest of this entry →

Friday Foto: Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Redux

This Friday Foto is not just one picture, but an entire slideshow in honor of an exciting announcement.

I’m running the Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon on November 9!

It’s a very special race for me. It was my first runDisney race, and the place where my husband, Phil, popped the question in 2011. It happened after the race during the Finish Line Party at the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival. You can read the whole story here.

Two years later, we’re returning to the scene of the crime as newlyweds.

We plan to run the 10 p.m. start race—in costume, of course—and then party the night away wining, dining, and Epcot attraction riding.

In 2011, we stayed until the party closed at 3 a.m. to celebrate our engagement. We were so giddy we took a silly photo in every single country around the World Showcase. Here is the slideshow to prove it. Read the rest of this entry →
