Running Jackets & Vests To Go The Distance

Running Jackets & Vests To Go The Distance

Running with Rella in Canada (RunKarlaRun.com)

Running through winter? Here are my favorite running jackets and vests I’ve tried in the last year.

Companies send me loads of samples. So I didn’t buy most of what you see here. But I also don’t keep most of what I receive. For each item here, I’ve sampled another one that didn’t make the cut.

So if it’s on this list, I officially own it and love it.

Many of the products I highlighted in the days of yore are still available and I still love them. (Nike Aeroloft 800 Running Vest, I’m talking to you.) So here are my gift guides from 2014 and 2013, which also have some of my perennial favorite running jackets and vests. And some of these have affiliate links to help keep RunKarlaRun.com running.

Happy Shopping!

Running Jackets & Vests

New Balance Beacon Vest, $108-$126

Get your glow on. Glow in the dark, reflective, wind, and water resistant. I basically lived in this during the New Balance Reach The Beach Relay, and it was comfortable mile after mile.

Champion Marathon Printed Packable Jacket, $22-$58

So light, so cool, hooded, packable, with thumbhole sleeves and a long hemline. This wind breaker traveled to Sweden and Norway with me and carried its (light) weight. Love it. Just wish the packable inner pocket had a carry strap.

Brooks Running LSD Jacket, $63-$98

Light weight, good looks with a split side-hem that mimics overlapping flower petals, packable with an elastic strap to slide onto your hand or arm while you’re not wearing it. Cue angels singing! The sleeves are a tad short and don’t have thumbholes. Otherwise, this beauty has it all.

The North Face Dynamix Hoodie, $85-$99

So soft and warm, this fleece hoodie also has weather-resistant soft shell fabric on the hood and shoulders, a large zipped hand-warming pocket, and adjustable collar and hem. It’s like a warm sleeping bag for your torso.

Gore Running Wear Mythos So Jacket, $116-$200

Windstopper fabric: Check. Fleece-lined, adjustable collar: Check. Thumbhole sleeves: Check. This baby has it all for winter running. When it comes to heavy-duty all-weather running, Gore is top-of-the-line. I basically retired my other all-weather running jackets when I found Gore. This one is very similar to the Mythos Windstopper Jacket that I reviewed last year. Which you’ll prefer between the two is a matter of style.

Under Armour To/From Waterproof Parka, $300

On the hunt for a two-piece all-weather jacket with a water proof shell and zip-out lining, I bought this beauty and couldn’t be happier. The shell is long, sleek, and includes a flattering adjustable waistband. The zip-in/zip-out liner is warm, soft, stylish, and hooded too. I’ve already worn each piece on its own and together. Me likey! No, it’s not a running jacket, but will be my go-to coat for all things winter.

All of the products here, except the Under Armour To/From Parka, were complimentary samples. Many of the items I receive or buy never make the pages of “Run, Karla, Run!” I simply don’t write about products that I don’t love. So if it made the cut, I officially use it and love it. For more information, read my disclosure policy.

We also received the Champion packable jackets and as you mentioned they are perfect for travel. I plan to stick mine in my suitcase next week for my cruise to the Caribbean. One of my all time favorite jackets came from Athleta last year and unfortunately, it was a one and done. I really wish companies would continue to stock some items in newer colors each year. When I find something I love, it is usually discontinued.

I find that really frustrating too. It happens to me a lot with sports bras. I find the perfect one, then they discontinue it. Have fun on the cruise!

What nice jackets! They make me re-think my moratorium on shopping.
