Registration for the 2015 Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend presented by Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals opens Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at 12 p.m. ET. The women-focused race weekend will take place at Walt Disney World in Florida from February 19-22, 2015. The race is the fourth largest half-marathon in the U.S., according to Running USA, and the second largest women’s running event with 22,739 finishers in 2013.
Here’s what runDisney has planned for 2015, including a Frozen themed 5K and Kids Races with medals to match.
Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend
- Disney Princess Half Marathon
- Disney Princess Enchanted 10K
- Disney Glass Slipper Challenge
- Disney Princess 5K themed to Frozen
- runDisney Kids Races themed to Frozen
Other race options include:
- Coast-to-Coast Race Challenge
- Disney Castaway Cay Challenge
The Disney Princess Half Marathon takes runners from Epcot to Magic Kingdom and back, including a run through Cinderella Castle. The 10K, 5K courses and Kids Races go through Epcot.
The weekend also includes the Happily Ever After Party in Downtown Disney—a post-race celebration on Sunday—and the runDisney Health & Fitness Expo at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex from Thursday through Saturday. Both events are free and open to the public.
The weekend’s ticketed events include the Pasta in the Park Party on Friday and Saturday nights in Epcot with a buffet pasta dinner, Disney character Meet & Greets, DJ, face painter and a reserved viewing spot for “IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth,” a light, laser, and fireworks show; the Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend Breakfast on Friday and Saturday after the 5K and 10K, respectively; and VIP Race Retreat Packages, which give runners access to a suite of pre- and post-race amenities.
Disney Glass Slipper Challenge
Runners looking for a bigger challenge than the half marathon can complete the Disney Glass Slipper Challenge, which dares runners to complete both the 10K on Saturday and the half marathon on Sunday for a total of 19.3 miles. They’ll earn three medals total: one for each race and one for the challenge.
Coast-to-Coast Race Challenge
Runners who complete both the 2015 Disney Princess Half Marathon and the 2015 Tinker Bell Half Marathon at Disneyland from May 7-10 will receive a special edition pink runDisney Coast-to-Coast Race Challenge medal. The Tinker Bell Half Marathon is Disney’s West Coast women-focused running event.
The Coast-to-Coast race challenge rewards runners who complete a marathon or half-marathon at both Walt Disney World in Florida and Disneyland in California in the same calendar year. Instead of the standard blue lanyard, the Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse special edition medal features a pink lanyard and pink overlay.
And because two or three or four Disney Princesses are better than one, runners can also race as a team. Team registration is $10 per person, with unlimited members allowed per team. Runners must register as an individual first, then create their team to receive a commemorative team bib, commemorative team item, and a team photo area at packet pick-up.
Disney Castaway Cay Challenge
And if you want to run yet another Disney race, runners can sign-up for the Disney Castaway Cay Challenge aboard the Disney Cruise Line 4-night Bahamian Cruise February 23-27, 2015 sailing.
The challenge combines a 5K or longer distance run at the 2015 Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend with the Disney Castaway Cay 5K on February 25, 2015 at Disney’s private island in the Bahamas. Runners earn a Disney Castaway Cay Challenge Finisher Medal, Castaway Cay Challenge Shirt, Castaway Cay 5K Finisher Medallion, along with other perks onboard.
Just be sure to read the fine print on this one. “To be eligible for the Castaway Cay Challenge runners must enter their cruise reservation number at the time of registration for a 5K or longer 2015 Disney Princess Half Marathon race event,” per runDisney’s website. Book the cruise first at DisneyCruise.com with code RUN, then register for the Disney Castaway Cay Challenge beginning July 22 at 12 p.m. ET on Active.com.
