I already told you about one East Coast opportunity to run with 2014 Boston Marathon champion Meb Keflezighi this summer. Now here’s a chance on the West Coast.

Keflezighi is running the 17th Suja Rock ‘n’ Roll San Diego Marathon & ½ Marathon to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society on Sunday, June 1, Competitor Group, Inc. announced Wednesday.

And get this: he’s leading the 1:30 half-marathon pace team. If you’ve always dreamed of going sub-90 in a half-marathon, why not do it with Meb?

The event in Keflezighi’s hometown will be his first race appearance since winning Boston on April 21. Meb graduated from San Diego High School before winning four NCAA championships at UCLA and 22 U.S. national championships. With a 2004 Olympic silver medal, 2009 New York City Marathon crown and 2014 Boston Marathon laurels, he’s a hometown hero in San Diego.

“To return to the streets of San Diego for the Suja Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon after winning the Boston Marathon will be something special for me and my fellow runners,” said Keflezighi. “This year I look forward to sharing my experience and knowledge to help more athletes achieve their goal in the city where I grew up. To have that opportunity amongst so many friends and family is something I’m really looking forward to.”

Keflezighi is running San Diego for the fourth consecutive year; he won the half-marathon in 2011 and 2012, and finished fourth in 2013. He’s also paced runners at a Rock ‘n’ Roll event before. After the cancellation of the 2012 New York City Marathon, Keflezighi paced the 1:30 group at the Rock ‘N’ Roll Las Vegas Half Marathon.

Keflezighi will also make other appearances during the San Diego race weekend, to be announced at a later date. The event includes a free two-day Health & Fitness Expo on Friday, May 30 and Saturday, May 31. Then the Suja Rock ‘N’ Roll San Diego Marathon and Half Marathon take place Sunday morning, beginning in Balboa Park and taking runners on a tour of the city that goes through Little Italy, Old Town, University Heights and Normal Heights before finishing at Petco Park. Local bands line the course and a post-race concert headlined by Aloe Blacc will be the weekend’s finale.

Nearly 25,000 runners finished the Suja Rock ‘N’ Roll San Diego Marathon and Half Marathon in 2013. This year, a lucky few will have the honor of running side-by-side with Meb.

“Not many people will ever be able to play basketball with LeBron James or catch a touchdown from Tom Brady, but here runners will have the once in a lifetime opportunity to run shoulder to shoulder with one of the greatest runners in American history,” said Tracy Sundlun, Senior Vice President of CGI.

That would be SO cool to actually run with Meb. Too bad I’d only be able to keep up with him for like a quarter mile lol!! :0)

Wow, how exciting. If I lived in LA/SD and were fast enough, I would love to run with Meb. Seriously, Meb as your pacer — too cool!

That is so cool that he’s doing this. What a great experience for those who will be able to hang with him! I love how runners are always helping other runners.

PS, I once beat Troy Aikman in a half marathon. I know he’s not a pro runner, but still….

He is such a great guy! How wonderful! I bet this will make so many people run so much faster than they would have otherwise! You should give it a go if you can! Fantastic! I am excited to meet you in a few weeks :D
