Limited entries are available through charity and tour groups. Registration is still open for the Pasta in the Park Party.

Registration opens for the Disneyland Half Marathon 2014 Weekend on Tuesday, January 28 at 12 pm EST. I’ve never actually run the Disneyland Half Marathon, but did run the inaugural Tinker Bell Half Marathon in 2012, courtesy of runDisney. Running Disneyland and Anaheim was one of my favorite race experiences.

The race weekend from August 29-31 in California includes the Disneyland Half Marathon, Disneyland 10K, Dumbo Double Dare, Disneyland Family Fun Run 5K and runDisney Kids Races. Runners, friends and family can also buy tickets to the Pasta in the Park Party and ChEAR Squad packages for the half marathon.

Last year, 15,872 runners finished the Disneyland Half Marathon and another 7,839 finished the Disneyland 10K. Over 5,000 of them finished the Dumbo Double Dare. Runners came from all 50 U.S. states and 15 countries for the races.

If you want in on the Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend, and especially the Dumbo Double Dare, be prepared to register right away. The 2013 Disneyland Half Marathon, Disneyland 10K and Dumbo Double Dare sold out in just 26 hours. The 10K and Dumbo Double Dare sold-out first, with the half-marathon closing just a few hours later.

In order to compete in the Dumbo Double Dare, runners must register for the challenge itself. Registering for the 10K and half-marathon individually does not qualify.

No doubt, the addition of the 10K and Dumbo Double Dare to the weekend’s existing events was part of the registration frenzy. This will be the second year for both the 10K and the Dumbo Double Dare, where runners complete the 10K and half-marathon on back-to-back days, earning a special Dumbo-themed medal in the process. The course for both races takes runners through the Disneyland theme parks and the city of Anaheim.

Another likely factor in the race weekend’s popularity is the Coast-to-Coast Race Challenge, which dares runners to complete a marathon or half-marathon at both Walt Disney World in Florida and Disneyland in California in the same calendar year. With only two race weekends at Disneyland—the Tinker Bell Half Marathon and Disneyland Half Marathon—runners looking to complete Coast-to-Coast have fewer races to choose from. Whereas, Walt Disney World hosts four races over three weekends that qualify runners.

Unlike last year, there are no new races or challenges at the Disneyland Half Marathon 2014 weekend, but runDisney will be debuting women’s cut technical shirts for the event in addition to the men’s unisex shirt of previous years. Yay!

Also new is the ticketed Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend Welcome Event featuring Runner’s World on Thursday, August 28 from 5:30 am to 7:00 am. The event will take place at Paradise Pier in Disney California Adventure Park with a question and answer session, warm-up with Runner’s World editors and a ride on Soarin’ Over California.

The race will also give runners and fans a chance to buy some of the coveted runDisney New Balance shoes.

Will the Disneyland Half Marathon 2014 weekend sell-out as quickly this year? We’ll see!

As fun as this race weekend will be, I’m doing Wine & Dine later this year, so I think I’ll save this race for either 2015 or 2016! I’m excited to see how quickly these races sell out this year though!

I’ll be registering for Dumbo Double Dare tomorrow, barring any unforeseen circumstances. It will be my one and only runDisney race this year. I ran Tink in 2013 and absolutely loved running at Disneyland, very much looking forward to heading back!

I do think part of the sell out record was people could pre-register at the expos. It’ll certainly be interesting to see how fast it sells out this year.

If I run the Dumbo Challenge, I need to pay for the 10k ($105), the half ($195), then register for the Dumbo ($320)..totaling $620? Am I doing the math correctly?

I’m not listening to their sire song that will cause my finances to crash upon a rocky shore. I’m going to stay strong. I think. Maybe. I hope it sells out quickly and the decision is made for me!

I cannot believe everything is selling out so fast. I was contemplating going for the coast to coast challenge with the Dumbo, but I didn’t even get a chance to finish thinking about it before it was gone! Maybe they’ll give me one of those media entries that you’ve gotten before…I have won 6 Emmys after all!

Wow! The Double Dare sold out in less than 2 hours today. I’m so glad that I set an alarm to sign up when registration opened so that DH and I are in. (We’re trying for the Coast to Coast challenge this year so I had to be on the ball.) How do you think runDisney will adapt to accommodate the increasing demand for their races? I know they’re offering more events, but do you think they would ever go to a lottery, like the Nike races?

The DDD sold out in 45 minutes if you can believe it. Congrats to you and your DH for getting in! I’ve wondered if they’d ever go to a lottery myself. Disneyland Half is definitely the most in-demand race–it sells out the fastest of all of them. Thankfully, there were no registration issues. RunDisney.com crashed, but Active.com worked fine and Disney kept tweeting out the registration link, which worked fine. I feel like site crashes are the biggest thing that prompt lotteries (as happened to the 2013 Chicago and Marine Corps Marathons. Now both races have lotteries for 2014.) But who knows? It’s certainly possible. Guess we’ll have to wait until 2015 to see!

Karla, please note that it was Tuesday, January 28, not Wednesday, January 28. I missed the registration because of this mis-information. Also, I signed up to get Disney’s email alert regarding registration, but I did not receive an email from then.

Liz, I’m sorry about that. I’d accidentally published Wednesday, Jan. 28 but caught it right away and corrected it back on the 27th the minute the post went up. But I always had the 28th as the date, which was correct. Guess we both forgot to look at the calendar! I’m guessing you had the post in your e-mail, which would have still said Wed. I’m sorry this caused you to miss registration.

Do you know when the registration for the Walt Disney World Half Marathon in August will open up? or is it sold out?

    Thanks Karla!

Christopher, there is no WDW Half in August. Disneyland is the only August race. If you want to run at Walt Disney World in the fall, the Tower of Terror 10-Mile is Oct. 4. Registration for that opens Feb. 11. The Wine & Dine Half Marathon (which might be my favorite) is usually in Nov, but the date and registration date for that haven’t been set yet. The Walt Disney World Half Marathon is in January. The date and registration haven’t been set, but registration usually opens in the spring for that race. Thanks for reading!

Great article Karla. Can’t wait to be there! I made these shirts for the occasion and as soon as it gets crowd funded I can get some for me and my get one for my girlfriend and I. Also, for every shirt sold a dollar will be donated back to the Children’s Miracle Network Hospital
