The folks at runDisney are at it again. After rolling out the biggest Walt Disney World Marathon yet—complete with a new race course and new post-race party—for the race’s 20th anniversary in January 2013, runDisney seems intent to top themselves once more with the introduction of the Dopey Challenge for the 2014 event from January 8-12.

If you think Goofy’s Race and a Half Challenge, where runners tackle both the Walt Disney World Half Marathon and Walt Disney World Marathon on consecutive days, was a lot of running then think again. The Dopey Challenge dares runners to conquer four races on four successive days: the Family Fun Run 5K on Thursday, a new Walt Disney World 10K on Friday, the Walt Disney World Half Marathon on Saturday and the Walt Disney World Marathon on Sunday. Runners who complete the Dopey Challenge will earn a whopping six medals—one for each race, one for Goofy’s Race and a Half Challenge and one for the Dopey Challenge for running a total of 48.6 miles in four days.

The new Walt Disney World 10K will take place at Epcot, where finishers will receive a Minnie Mouse inspired medal. The Half Marathon course takes runners through Epcot and Magic Kingdom, whereas the Marathon course takes runners on a tour of the entire Walt Disney World resort.

As always, the 2014 Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend will also include the runDisney Kids Races, the Mickey Mile and Disney’s Health and Fitness Expo, all at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. Special ticketed parties around the races will include character breakfasts following the Family Fun Run 5K and Walt Disney World 10K at Epcot, as well as the popular Pasta in the Park parties at Epcot. The Cool Down Party at Downtown Disney after the Marathon is free and open to the public without tickets.

Having finished my first Walt Disney World Marathon and fourth runDisney event in January, I can only imagine how popular and how much fun this new Dopey Challenge will be.

Registration for all Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend events opens April 9, but runners can enter early by signing up for the Runner’s World Challenge beginning April 2.  Participants in the Runner’s World Challenge receive customized training plans from Runner’s World magazine editors and get special access to VIP experiences throughout weekend.

For more information and to register for Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend events, visit www.runDisney.com.

As a member of the running media, runDisney provided me with complimentary race entry, hotel, park tickets, airfare and some meals for the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend. But as always, all opinions are purely my own. I really do believe in being honest about my experiences and Disney is no exception. For more information read my Disclosure Policy.
