Runners raise $650 million annually to fight cancer. Now California Sports Company K-Swiss is getting in the spirit too. They’ve teamed up with Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C), an initiative to accelerate groundbreaking cancer research, to create a line of footwear and apparel built to help every athlete fight cancer. K-Swiss will contribute $5 from the sale of each product in the collection to Stand Up To Cancer through Dec. 31, 2013.
“Collaborating with Stand Up To Cancer gives us a valuable opportunity to support and help inspire a movement to save lives,” said David Nichols, executive vice-president of K-Swiss. “We are excited to create a unified front across the running community and encourage people, from their first 5K or first triathlon, to race for a world without cancer.”
The collection features running and lifestyle shoes, and performance, running and triathlon apparel including shorts, tanks, reflective jackets and more.
In addition, K-Swiss and Stand Up To Cancer are launching Team SU2C. Runners and triathletes can raise funds by participating in their favorite races or buying K-Swiss/SU2C gear. Team recruiting will take place at running events across the country, including regional Rock N’ Roll Marathon, Life Time Fitness and Ironman events. Anyone can run on behalf of Team SU2C or buy SU2C/K-Swiss race gear on-site to help in the fight against cancer. Plus, Stand Up To Cancer has partnered with Crowdrise to offer a custom fundraising page for Team SU2C. Members can set up individual or team pages for their fundraising efforts.
Stand Up To Cancer’s goal is to get new therapies to patients as quickly as possible by encouraging collaboration amongst researchers instead of competition.
“Stand Up To Cancer is about collaboration and acceleration,” said Sue Schwartz, co-founder of SU2C and partner at Robertson Schwartz Agency. “So stand up, and join the team!”
I’ll be racing for Team SU2C on behalf of my cousin Laura, who is battling clear cell sarcoma, a rare cancer that is often resistant to traditional cancer therapies. I’ll race in K-Swiss/SU2C gear at the Long Island Gold Coast Triathlon on June 17 and the Philadelphia Marathon on Nov. 18 as one of Laura’s Warriors in an effort to raise $10,000 to help ease the cost of her cancer treatments.
